The Inspection Test has two parts. The first part is an OPEN BOOK written exam which consists of 326 multiple choice/true-false questions that will test your knowledge in five key areas:
● Installation/Sand & Finish
● Problems, Causes & Cures
● Maintenance and Recoating
● Substrates
● Inspection Procedures
You must pass this open book portion of the test with a 75% or better overall score. The Inspector School will help you prepare to take the Certified Inspector Test, but will not go over every question and answer. Therefore, you will need to study prior to attending the school.
The second part of the exam includes two Inspection Report Scenarios simulating complaints to be inspected. Each scenario shall be presented with a text description and possibly a photo/illustration. The applicant is to review the scenarios and complete full inspection reports using the NWFACP Standard Inspection Report format, which will be provided. The scenarios are take-home exams and must be returned within 10 business days to NWFA Certified Professionals via email sharons@nwfacp.org, fax 636-519-9664 or mail to 111 Chesterfield Industrial Blvd., Chesterfield, MO 63005.
If you fail the open book exam you can reapply to take the test after 6 months for a cost of $250/member or $350/nonmember.
After successful completion of the written test and scenarios, you are required to submit and gain approval on 3 inspection reports within 1 year of passing the exam. If NWFACP does not receive and approve three reports within the 1 year deadline, you will be required to retest and all retest fees apply.
Once 3 inspection reports are approved, Certified Wood Flooring Inspector (CWFI) status is awarded and contact information is listed at www.nwfa.org for referrals.
