This training program reviews all of the necessary skills to take the NWFACP Installation and/or Sand & Finish Certification exam.

INSTALLATION CERTIFICATION TRAINING AND TESTING - July 25 - 26, St. Louis, MO

Prerequisite to test:
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in wood flooring installation
  • Successful completion of Intermediate, Advanced or Expert level Installation Training or NWFA Installation Certification School or approved manufacturer school
  • NWFA member in good standing

To earn Certified Installer status, you must complete online courses and accompanying tests through NWFA University. Some courses may involve a hands-on component.

The hands-on test is designed to demonstrate technical mastery of wood flooring installation skills including:

  • Engineered wood floor glue-down over concrete sub-floor            
  • Solid wood nail-down on wood sub-floor
  • Dry lay herringbone installation
  • Replace a board in existing floor
  • Install floating floor over concrete slab

SAND & FINISH CERTIFICATION TRAINING & TESTING: July 27 - 28, St. Louis, MO

Prerequisite to test:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in sanding & finishing of wood floors and
  • Successful completion of Intermediate, Advanced or Expert level Sand & Finish Training or NWFA Sand & Finish Certification School or approved manufacturer school
  • Must be a member in good standing with National Wood Flooring Association

To earn Certified Sand & Finish Professional status you must pass an online sand & finish written test and a hands-on/skills test.

Online Test:  You must complete and pass the online test prior to the hands-on test. If you fail the online written test, you can apply to retest. The same testing fees apply.

Hands-On Test:  The hands-on portion of the Sand & Finish Certification is designed to demonstrate technical mastery of the following wood flooring sand & finish skills:

  • Rough sanding unfinished strip flooring
  • Sanding and applying stain coat
  • Apply seal coat
  • Prepare and apply final coat to prefinished or previously finished strip floor
