Intermediate Sand & Finish     

·         Prerequisites; 1 year of Sand & Finish experience OR attendance at the Basic Sand & Finish school or Principles of Wood Flooring, Plus completion of the NWFA University Sand & Finish safety course.

·         This 3-day course includes in depth training on general equipment maintenance, sanding multiple flooring types, including a variety of species, unfinished, factory finished, engineered and multi-directional flooring. The attendee will learn the art of flattening a floor, minimizing the scratch patterns and efficient use of the equipment. On the finishing side, the attendee will learn about and practice with stain application, sealers, natural oils, waxes, colorants, reactive conditioners, finish application, scraping, repairs, board replacement, recoats and final coat application.

·         Receive three continuing certification units upon completion. Completion of this course qualifies the attendee for the Advanced Finish course. Completion of this course along with the Intermediate Installation course qualifies the attendee for the Master Craftsman course, and the Inspector school.




Sand & Finish Certification Testing

·         Prerequisites

o   Member of NWFA in good standing

o   Minimum of 3 years’ experience in sanding and finishing of wood flooring

o   Successful completion of NWFA Intermediate Sand & Finish or above level training

o   Completion of NWFA University courses in sand & finish

·         hands-on testing in 4 areas:

o   Rough sanding unfinished strip flooring

o   Finish sanding and applying stain coat

o   Apply seal coat

o   Prepare and final coat a prefinished or previously finished strip floor
